#12 — rt2x00 not working

State Resolved
Version: 2.6.32-zen
Area Zen-Unstable Releases/GIT
Issue type Bug
Severity Medium

Target release:
I have a wireless card based on RT61, it works well with in-kernel driver in 2.6.30.
I've compiled a zen-unstable.git kernel and the only thing that's not working well is the wireless card.
It's slow and intermittently working, and in dmesg i see a lot of messages like:

[ 2027.081862] phy0 -> rt2x00queue_write_tx_frame: Error - Arrived at non-free entry in the non-full queue 2.

It's a problem of zen-patches or upstream?
Steps to reproduce:
1)get a PC with a rt61pci-based card
2) start with zen-unstable.git kernel
3)start internet browsing

Could you please test vanilla .32-rc8? It is likely vanilla bug as at the moment not much of zen touches wireless.

With Zen kernel the problem appears within 2-3 minutes from activity start. (tried 7-8 boots)
with latest git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git
and a very similar config
(cp zen/.config vanilla/.config; cd vanilla; make oldconfig; make;)
Now I've heavily used network for 20 minutes with that kernel (uname -a => Linux sigmaii 2.6.32-rc8 #1 SMP Mon Nov 23 01:42:45 CET 2009 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
) and it's all ok. Fast as always. No strange messages in dmesg.
UPDATE-- many other hours of continuous work from vanilla 2.6.32-rc8. Everything is OK.

Please try now (latest zen.git). We have reverted gc-linux (which pulled in wireless-testing) so the issues should be gone now.

Problem still present in stable branch. Now i'm updating unstable branch and re-testing it.

Also in unstable branch. :( how can I revert wireless-testing locally?
Added by dominic duklas on Dec 19, 2009 03:08 AM
wireless-testing is not merged in - wasn't since i reverted gc-linux (which is not present in zen-stable.git). Did you test vanilla 2.6.32?

It's present also in vanilla now :(
But i've found the culprit: CONFIG_CFG80211_DEFAULT_PS
(http://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/65589/)
Disabling it solves the problem, also in zen.git
